Information about the class

How is the class organized?

The class is not organized by chapters in the book but by concepts.  There will be four units and each unit will have a number of sections.  Each unit is tied to the Indiana Department of Education Learning Standards.

What do you need for class?

Would will need the following items:

  • A notebook into which you will place your class notes

  • A blue or black pen

  • A number two pencil

  • A copy of your textbook

Materials for Student Use

Materials for student use can be found on the table next to the door.  If you use something on the table, return it to its correct location.  Do not take any item from Mr. Weir's desk.

Due Dates

All assignments are due by the start of the period indicated by Mr. Weir.  The assignment should either placed in the basket by the door or emailed to Mr. Weir at econ@weironline.net.  NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

If you are absent, on a field trip, or will miss class for any reason, the assignments are still due and can be emailed to Mr. Weir.  Due dates that are missed due to prolonged absences of more than two class meetings should be discussed with Mr. Weir promptly upon your return to school.

Absences

Quizzes

  • Students will be allowed to use their notes on daily quizzes.  They may not use homework papers, mechanically reproduced documents, or materials belonging to other students.

  • In order to accommodate students who are absent (excused or unexcused), 20% of your quiz scores will be DROPPED at the end of each marking period and so daily quizzes are NOT "make-up-able." 

For field trips, medical appointments, and other events that cause the student to miss part of a day

  • Turn in all assignments prior to leaving school or, if you missed the first part of the day, immediately upon your arrival at school.

  • You may take a quiz during your study hall prior to your departure.

For one day absences

  • All assignments (papers, etc.) that are due on the day you are absent should be submitted electronically on the day that they are due.

For two or more day absences

  • School rules will be followed.  You have as many days to make up assignments are you were absent from school.

If you miss a test

  • On the day that you return to school you should fill out a MAC pass for your NEXT study hall and give the pass to Mr. Weir.  The study hall cannot be on the same day as your return to school.  Mr. Weir will send your make-up test to the MAC Center.  If your study hall is at MCIT, please speak to Mr. Weir and he will send the test to the supervising MCIT study hall teacher.

 

Specific Class Rules

First Offense - verbal warning
Second Offense - verbal warning and parent contact
Third Offense - the issue will be turned over to Ms. Thompson in the Dean's Office.

Mr. Weir reserves the right to amend, suspend, or abrogate any rule for offenses that are above and beyond the behavior expected of senior high school student.

Cheating

Cheating is unacceptable and will result in the penalties listed above and  a 0 on an assignment or WF for the class.  Examples of cheating include:

  • copying homework (in part or whole) from another student

  • using or possessing a cell phone during a quiz, text, exam, or graded class activity

  • communication of any kind during a test or quiz

  • copying information from books without giving the author credit (plagiarism)

  • telling other students questions or answers from tests or quizzes after you have taken the test or quiz.

  • "aiding or abetting" others to cheat.

Cell Phones

Cell phones are to be turned off, put away, and not brought out, used, or even seen while you are in the classroom.

Tardies

You are to be in the classroom when the bell rings.  If you are late, report to the Tardy Room (Dean's Office).  If you are driving from MCIT then you must be in the classroom when the students from the MCIT but arrive at the classroom.
