1. Define CALIBRATION as it relates to any measuring instrument.

2. What is the calibration of the centigram balance?
3. To what place do you RECORD a measurment using the centigram balance (write this as a decimal fraction)?
4. Using the triple beam balance, determine the mass of an empty 250 mL beaker (making sure you record the value to the correct decimal place). Be sure to include proper units as well.
5. Add approximately 100 mL of tap water to the empty beaker.
6. Using the triple beam balance, determine the mass of the beaker plus the water (making sure you record the value to the correct decimal place). Be sure to include proper units as well.
7. Set up the ring stand, wire mesh and a fisher burner.
8. Place the beaker with the water on the ring stand and heat the water.  Let boil until approximately half of the water has evaporated.
9. Using the red rubber "hot hands," remove the hot beaker and let cool for 5 minutes.
10.  Remeasure the mass of the beaker with the remaining water (making sure you record the value to the correct decimal place). Be sure to include proper units as well.
11. What was the mass of the water which evaporated (making sure you record the value to the correct decimal place)? Be sure to include proper units as well.
12. Return all equipment to where it belongs.
13. Wipe down your lab bench and wash your hands.
