One last thing -- and this is pretty much common

sense. Which bond do you think would take the MOST

amount of energy to break (for the same pair of relative

atoms)?

SINGLE bond

DOUBLE bond

or TRIPLE bond.

Of course, it would be the triple bond. Check the

amounts of energy on your table:

C-C 347 kJ

C=C 619 kJ (twice as many electrons are being shared!)

C= C 812 kJ

Finally, double bonds are shorter than single bonds and

triple bonds are even shorter than double bonds!
